Recognizing Vision Trouble Due to Brain Injuries

Sometimes with a brain injury and/or concussion, vision problems can go undetected during the initial treatment. When an individual's vision is compromised through a brain injury or concussion, the results can be profound. Because the brain plays such a big role in the visual process, any injury can disrupt it, resulting in vision problems.

Symptoms of Vision Problems

  • Blurry vision
  • Comprehension challenges
  • Concentration and comprehension issues
  • Difficulty reading
  • Double vision
  • Headaches
  • Loss of visual field
  • Problems with depth perception
  • Problems with focusing
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Trouble with tracking

Consider Vision Therapy as Part of Your Rehab

Studies have shown that recovery from a brain injury or concussion can take anywhere from days to weeks to years, depending on the age of the injured and the severity of the concussion. In conjunction with other symptoms, there is the possibility that learning problems and returning to school too quickly can worsen symptoms.

There is a difference between sight and vision. Vision therapy is a specialized visual rehabilitation that works to restore any neurological compromise that may have resulted from a traumatic brain injury.
